John Belle
John Belle, FAIA, RIBA, Hon. PhD, is a founding partner of Beyer Blinder Belle Architects & Planners LLP of New York City, Washington, DC, and Beijing, China. His major architectural projects include the creation of the Ellis Island Museum of Immigration, the revitalization of Grand Central Terminal and the renovation of Rockefeller Center in New York City; restoration of the Delaware Aqueduct, Pennsylvania, the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, California, and the Cathedral of the Madeleine, Utah; and numerous projects for the State University of New York at Stony Brook and for Indiana University as Master Planner for its eight campuses. Mr. Belle is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and is a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects. He has served as President of the New York Landmarks Conservancy. In 2003, Mr. Belle was made an honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Architects in Wales; in 2000, he was awarded a Doctorate of Fine Arts by the State University of New York at Stony Brook in recognition of his achievements in architecture, design, and historic preservation. Mr. Belle has been awarded the Presidential Design Award for the Ellis Island Museum of Immigration, Grand Central Terminal, and the Delaware Aqueduct projects and was given the Silver Medal by the Chartered Institute of Building Literary Awards for Grand Central: Gateway to A Million Lives, for which he was a co-author.
