RECOMMENDATION: Recommend AGAINST the issuance of permit for a non-operable awnings with vertical supports permanently anchored to the sidewalk as shown in materials received and dated 5 January 2007. Sidewalk in this location is too narrow for a permanent sidewalk café. Suggest using freestanding table umbrellas or retractable awnings attached to the east facade of building and aligned so as not to block windows or decorative architectural elements. When resubmitting, include application for public space permit with a site plan and elevation drawings of the building with new awning in place and details of attachments. Refer to the District of Columbia Historic Preservation Office for review.
