RECOMMENDATION: The Commission regrets that numerous exterior alterations have occurred without review or permit. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for proposed exterior alterations. Submitted materials are not accurate with regard to existing conditions and do not indicate all of the proposed work. File new submission with permit application with dimensioned plans and elevations for all exterior work, including window/door/skylights/areaway /mechanical equipment/vent alterations no later than 14 February 2008 for review at the 6 March meeting. Refer to the Building Inspector for Historic Preservation.

RECOMMENDATION: Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for proposed alterations, including replacement fence and gate. Submitted materials are insufficient for permit review. Recommend proposed fence matches construction, placement and height of existing fences on alley, and that retaining wall be faced in brick and aligned with adjoining brick wall. File new submission with adequate construction drawings, including details, dimensions and materials, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations including three lights for sign with 12-inch high letters reading "Qdoba Mexican Grill"(including cactus logo) and 24" –high flat panel behind as shown in supplemental drawings dated 27 December 2007. Note: Because the application is pending final zoning review, any subsequent modifications to the approved design must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for proposed 8'-4" by 13' shed and stone garden wall at rear of property as shown in supplemental drawings dated 20 December 2007. Shed will have limited visibility from public thoroughfare. Note: Because the application is pending final zoning review, any subsequent modifications to the approved design must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval.

RECOMMENDATION: The Commission regrets that awning and signs were installed prior to review and without a permit. No objection to issuance of permit for existing awning PROVIDED it is canvas or woven fabric, and for lettering on valance reading "Georgetown Pet Boutique" and for small projecting sign by entry door. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for existing oval sign which must be removed no later than 29 February 2008. Note: Because the application is pending final zoning review, any subsequent modifications to the approved design must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for proposed 9x24-inches pin-mounted vertical flat wood sign reading "Pinnacle Preferred Properties" as shown in supplemental drawings dated 10 January 2008. Note: Because the application is pending final zoning review, any subsequent modifications to the approved design must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval.

RECOMMENDATION: The Commission regrets that replacement windows were installed prior to review and without a permit. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement of two vinyl windows at rear with new Pella 1/1 wood windows as shown in supplemental drawings dated 19 December 2007 PROVIDED new windows are sized to fit masonry opening without need for secondary frame and use half-screens only.

RECOMMENDATION: The Commission regrets that signs were added to storefront without prior review and permit. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for existing signage. Request applicant to remove all signage except for existing large green oval located in central window. Unapproved existing signs must be removed no later than 29 February 2008.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for proposed Sunbrella fabric awning with lettering no taller than 14 ½ in. reading "Tackle Box" to match location and design of awning for adjacent storefront, and for replacement of the mechanical equipment on roof of first floor at rear as shown in supplemental drawings dated 21 December 2007. The alterations to the storefront were deleted from this permit application, existing storefront to be repaired and retained. Note: Because the application is pending final zoning review, any subsequent modifications to the approved design must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval.

RECOMMENDATION: Returned without Action. Concept case was withdrawn at the written request of applicant.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement of three groupings of three antennas each with three groupings of one antenna (and two future antennas) with their cabinet for T-Mobile at the roof of the Georgetown Inn as shown in supplemental drawings dated 16 January 2008. New antennas will not be installed taller than existing. Cabinets will be located to limit visibility from public thoroughfare. Note: Because the application is pending final zoning review, any subsequent modifications to the approved design must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval.

RECOMMENDATION: Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for proposed 12-ft long banner which is not appropriate for the historic district. Existing sign for "O Salon" mounted on storefront was previously approved.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for proposed sign scheme for "Juicy Couture" including 12-inch high back-lit signs on M Street facade and 8-inch high wall-mounted flat letters above entrance door on Thomas Jefferson, as shown in supplemental drawings dated __ January 2008 which indicate that signs above storefront windows on side facade were deleted.

RECOMMENDATION: The Commission regrets that alterations to storefront were made without prior review and permit. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for six existing flags/banners on building facade. Flags are not used in accordance with U.S. Code Title 4, Chapter 1. Banners are inappropriate for buildings fronting streets in the Georgetown Historic District. Recommend removal of all hardware and repair brick and mortar to match historic conditions no later than 29 February 2008.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for proposed projecting sign for Expertise Landscape Garden Design as shown in supplemental drawings dated 15 January 2008 which indicate simplification of sign and reduction in amount of lettering. A projecting sign is approved in this location because business does not have a storefront on street. Note: Because the application is pending final zoning review, any subsequent modifications to the approved design must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for proposed window, door, and porch alterations as shown in drawings dated 20 December 2007. Note: Because the application is pending final zoning review, any subsequent modifications to the approved design must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval.

RECOMMENDATION: The Commission regrets that alterations to storefront, sign and planters were installed prior to review and without a permit. No objection to issuance of permit for existing alterations to storefront, sign with lettering reading "Sotheby", and planters. Note: Because the application is pending final zoning review, any subsequent modifications to the approved design must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval.

RECOMMENDATION: Returned without Action. Rear facade of this property is not visible from public thoroughfare. No other windows are to be repaired or altered. Refer to the Historic Preservation Review Board.
