RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit to replace windows on east, west, and north side of Alexander Memorial Baptist Church with aluminum frame stained glass windows as shown in supplemental drawings dated 9 October 2008. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to general concept design for alterations and addition to library as shown in supplemental drawings dated 24 October 2008. File new concept submission(s) for design development drawings including reduced width at entrance ramp at north, areaway at south, mechanical enclosure, and landscaping.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to concept design for proposed two-story rear addition as shown in supplemental drawings dated 24 October 2008. File new submission of working drawings, including dimensions and details, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready. Reconstruction of front porch was deleted from this concept design.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for proposed non-illuminated sign composed of pin-mounted letters no taller than 12-inches high reading "Los Cuates" attached to aluminum panel over storefront, and for applied letters no taller than 4-inches on shop windows as shown in supplemental drawings dated 24 October 2008, PROVIDED mural on side wall for previous tenant is removed and painted over with the wall color. Light fixtures, which were not approved, were deleted from this permit application. Existing sign panel will be cut down in length according to proposed sign. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

RECOMMENDATION: The Commission regrets that signs and three bull-nose stripped awnings were installed prior to review and without a permit. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for existing awnings. File a new submission of detailed drawings for two smaller solid-color fabric awnings attached to the window frames with a base above capital of column and no valance. File separate submission of detailed drawings for signage on the window glass ONLY, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready. Awning over entry door was not approved. Existing completed work must be removed no later than 28 February 2009.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for proposed one-story rear addition as shown in supplemental drawings dated 10 November 2008 which indicate French doors at rear. Clerestory window opening on side wall was not approved and was deleted from this permit application. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for African American Heritage Trail, Washington, DC plaques at retaining wall near 26th and O Streets in Rose Park and facade of First Baptist Church, Georgetown, at 2624 Dumbarton Street. Attach plaques through mortar joints.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to openings on side wall and for two-story rear addition as shown in supplemental drawings dated __ November 2008 which indicate historic sills on new wood windows with 1 3/8–in. muntin and half screens, and only one light fixture on side wall. Electric meter must be kept off front facade. Proposed flood light is not appropriate to historic district, was not approved and was deleted from permit drawings. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

RECOMMENDATION: Returned without Action. Concept application was superseded by permit application under case O.G. 09-025.

RECOMMENDATION: Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for replacement of windows. Submitted material is insufficient for permit review. File new submission with detailed drawings of both existing and proposed windows, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

RECOMMENDATION: Returned without Action. Permit application for temporary signs for Colonial Parking was withdrawn by written request of applicant.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for non-illuminated "easyspirit" sign with 3 1/8" letters as shown in drawings received 17 October 2008. Note projecting signs were withdrawn from proposal. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations, including 10-ft wide wood sliding gate, 9-ft wide brick driveway and 11-ft wide curb-cut on public space as shown in supplemental drawings dated 17 November 2008. The Commission notes that the curb cut was acceptable in this property only due to the unique conditions of the site and its context within the historic district. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to existing rear deck, including wood railing, steps and decking, and for new wood fence, as shown in supplemental drawings dated 22 October and 12 November 2008. The use of composite materials was not approved and was replaced with wood. Railing and fence must be painted or stained. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement stucco on front facade to match existing smooth finish and on side wall to match rough texture finish, and for removal of paint from brick steps. Control joint between new and old stucco must be caulked and painted to make it less noticeable. After initial explorative removal of stucco on front wall, if the original wood siding is still in place, it must be repaired and retained. Applicant must return to the Commission for review of options to repair of siding prior to continuing work. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations, including anchor stars, lintel over louvers and replacement stucco on side wall. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

RECOMMENDATION: Recommend AGAINST concept design for proposed third floor addition which is inappropriate to this historic building.

RECOMMENDATION: Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for proposed vinyl replacement windows which are inappropriate to this building and the historic district. File a new submission of detailed drawings for a replacement window standard for all the units in the condominium building with a permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for proposed installation of light poles no taller than 80-ft high with only two sets of lights fixtures each, located at the Multi-Sport Facility as shown in supplemental drawings dated 29 October 2008. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

RECOMMENDATION: Recommend AGAINST proposed concept of deleting the trellis in front of the windows which were previously approved during permit review for new building. The trellis is a contributing feature in the design. Recommend change of materials from stainless steel to aluminum, and study of revisions to the detailing which must be submitted for review.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement of existing vinyl windows with single-hung wood window sashes on original frame and half-screens as shown in supplemental drawings dated 19 November 2008 PROVIDED single glazed windows with true-divided 7/8-inch muntins with ogee (S-shape) profile are used and existing brick mould is retained. Original curved top window at dormer must be repaired and retained. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed aluminum clad windows with simulated divided-lites to match original at rear facade, which is not visible from public thoroughfare. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

RECOMMENDATION: Proposed repair of exposed party wall was superseded by proposed partial demolition and reconstruction of deteriorated sections of wall. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed removal of damaged brick of party wall, now exposed, and reconstruction of wall as shown in supplemental drawings dated 20 November 2008 which indicate original exterior brick to remain in place delineating profile of building that was razed. Recommend new brick at front corner matches brick at front facade for a return of 1 ½ bricks and painted to match. Erect a material panel of brick and mortar samples on site for review by the Board when ready.

RECOMMENDATION: Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for proposed alteration to widen opening of basement door which would be disruptive to the historic fabric and inappropriate for this building. Existing opening must remain as is.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for window/door repair and dormer alterations as shown in supplemental drawings dated 24 October 2008. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

RECOMMENDATION: The Commission regrets that extensive work was completed prior to review and without a permit. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to existing rear shed dormer and two new gable dormers at front as shown in supplemental drawings dated 19 November 2008. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for replacement of basement windows with insulated wood windows as shown in supplemental drawings dated 24 October 2008. Other windows, transom and entry door on front facade will be repaired. Existing grilles on basement windows will remain in place. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to openings on rear wall and for new window system in garage opening as shown in supplemental drawings dated November 2008, PROVIDED existing curb-cut is eliminated at the same time. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for alterations to openings at rear, including relocated dormer, new terrace and wood panel and brick pier fencing, and driveway at front that is not expanded as shown in drawings dated 17 October 2008. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for proposed two-story rear addition with basement, new portico, wood fence, gate and replacement windows as shown in supplemental drawings dated 10 November 2008 which indicate single-glazed true-divided-lite wood windows with half screens, no roof top mechanical equipment, 7-ft high wood replacement fence along property line and wood trim rather than PVC. Proposed flood lights are not appropriate to historic district, were not approved and were deleted from permit drawings. Wood fence must be painted or stained. Existing iron fence in front yard must be repaired and retained. No objection to razing of existing shed. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

RECOMMENDATION: Returned without Action. Submitted materials and a site visit of 18 November 2008 indicate that proposed alterations to rear will not be visible from public thoroughfare. Refer to the Historic Preservation Review Board.
