No objection to issuance of permit for the proposed alteration to the first floor window for a larger multi–light single glazed wood show window with true divided lite muntins as shown in supplemental drawings dated 28 May 2014 PROVIDED all previous violations are corrected as part of the scope of work under this permit, including replacing the picture window at 1211 Potomac with one to match proposed window, replacing second floor windows with single–glazed 6/6 all wood windows with true divided lite wood muntins, replacing nailed–on shutters with operable wood shutters that will cover the window when closed, and that sign on awning at 1211 Potomac is made to conform with approved design as shown in supplemental drawings. All corrective work to be completed no later than 31 December 2014. RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for proposed non–illuminated sign composed of letters reading "Calligaris" and logo no taller than 12 inches high pin–mounted to cornice on projecting bay as shown in supplemental drawings dated 27 May and 4 June 2014 which indicate that the decals proposed for the glass on side of bay, which are not appropriate and were not approved, are deleted. Awnings with signs on second floor windows, which are not appropriate to the character of this historic building, and banner on alley were deleted from this permit application. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re–submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

RECOMMENDATION: No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement wood fences, for fountain at courtyard and for green roof on garage as shown in drawings dated 22 May 2014 which indicate fences and gates will be stained Grey Cedar. Approval is conditional on the painting of the brick walls on the historic house, and on the new garage, and the garden walls, a consistent uniform color. Existing patch work of coloration on the walls is not appropriate to the character of the historic building or its context. Recommend stain for wood fences and gates be an opaque stain. Note: The Capitol Trust holds an easement on this property.
