In its meeting of 19 February, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed the revised final design for several components of the proposed perimeter security barriers as part of the master plan for Judiciary Square.

The Commission approved the proposed treatment of the plaza at the north end of Building A, incorporating the perimeter security barrier into the edge of the existing terrace. The Commission considered the various options presented for the E Street barrier in relation to the tree planting areas and sidewalk, approving Option A3 which provides the greatest amount of sidewalk space for pedestrians.

The Commission also considered the various options for building identification signs on the stone piers and recommended Alternate 3, which uses a large-sized letter to identify the building. The Commission noted the possibility that the Court building names may be changed prior to construction of this signage and anticipates that any modified design will be submitted for further review.
