Dear Mr. Sarles:

The staff of the Commission of Fine Arts has reviewed the final construction documents and material selections for alterations to the First Street entrance to the Union Station Metro station, submitted by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. The final design conforms with the previous recommendations of the Commission, and the staff has no objections to the design for the alterations to the station entrance as submitted.

With the authority delegated by the Commission at its meeting of 19 September 2013, we approve the final plans and the material selections for the First Street Metro station entrance, as documented in the drawings and materials received and dated 24 February 2014. If there are any additional changes please contact the staff to determine if additional review will be required. As always, the staff is available to assist you with future submissions.

Sincerely,

/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
