Letter

Dear Ms. Anderson-Austra:

The Commission expresses it appreciation for the informational presentation updating the status of the design competition for the Pentagon Memorial to the Victims of the 11 September 2001 attack. The members appreciated your presentation of the designs of the six first-round finalists and look forward to seeing the schemes developed during the second stage in the selection process. The competition's jury and management team is commended for their efforts in and dedication to the task of selecting these six semifinalists from the field of1,126 entries.

We encourage the Department of Defense and the Army Corps of Engineers to document the competition and all its submissions. Ideally a publication or CD could be produced featuring photographs of all the submitted designs so that a true sense of the design diversity and the range of schemes proposed for the memorial can be illustrated and acknowledged.

As always, the staff is available should you require guidance.

Sincerely,

/s/ Harry G. Robinson III, FAIA
