Letter

Dear Mr. McGill:

In its meeting of 16 September, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed and approved the revised concept design for a new nine-story mixed-use building to be located at 4th and M Streets, SE, on Parcel D of the Southeast Federal Center (The Yards).

In their discussion, the Commission members supported the significant design changes made since the previously approved concept. These changes, resulting from alterations to the proposed mix of uses, include the orientation of the proposed residential blocks in the north-south direction; the alignment of the proposed building volumes with significant historic and non-historic buildings in the immediate context; the expansion of retail space on the ground floor; and the refinement of the building facades.

The Commission looks forward to the completion of this project and to reviewing future proposals in The Yards. As always, the staff is available to assist you.

Sincerely,

/s/Thomas E. Luebke, AIA
