Dear Ms. O'Dell:

Before the public meeting on 20 November, the Commission of Fine Arts visited the site of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial to inspect alternative samples of stone and letter-carving treatments under consideration for the memorial's inscription walls. The Commission members considered various properties of the stone, including its ease of carving, durability, and color, and approved the design team's recommended selection of the "Atlantic Green" granite at the public meeting.

The Commission looks forward to a full presentation of the design for the memorial's inscriptions and signage. As always, the staff is available to assist you.

Sincerely,

Thomas E. Luebke, AIA
