Letter

Dear Mr. Sanchez:

In its meeting of 21 April, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed a new concept design for an addition and alterations to the Moultrie Courthouse at 500 Indiana Avenue, NW. The Commission expressed appreciation for the design team's response to the previous recommendations and approved the new concept design, with review of the project's final details delegated to the staff.

The Commission members offered several comments and recommendations which should be addressed into the final submission. While they supported the use of limestone on the majority of the addition, they recommended that the glass facade of the cantilevered portion be refined in its proportions, modulation, and detail; solar-shading elements would be a logical feature for this south-facing glass wall and would provide the opportunity for further articulation of the facade. They also requested that specific details of the landscaping, particularly the continuous planter boxes for street trees, be incorporated in the final submission.

In accordance with its delegated authority, the staff looks forward to working with the project team to bring the project to a successful conclusion and is available to assist you with the next submission.

Sincerely,

/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
