Letter

Dear Mr. Newton:

During the 21 October 2004 meeting of the Commission, the members reviewed the proposed additions to the Pentagon’s River Terrace and entry bridge to Corridor #8 to accommodate a new entrance pavilion and skylights for the new library and conference center (PLC2) to be constructed in the space under the east end of the terrace. While the members had no objections to the skylights as proposed, and agreed with the general design strategy and facade treatments for the new entrance pavilion, they did have several concerns with the configuration of the security booth and screening area on the north side of the pavilion. They felt that this security feature was not well integrated into the design of the pavilion and that it looked like an afterthought. The same was said about the metal pedestrian-control fence that directed individuals into the security screening station. Additional study of both of these items is warranted.

The Commission looks forward to further review of this project as the designs develop and suggests that for the next submission material samples be submitted. As always, the staff is available should you, your staff or the design team require guidance.

Sincerely,

/s/Frederick J. Lindstrom
