Dear Mr. D’Amico:

During its meeting of 21 October 2004, the Commission reviewed and approved the proposed concept for the renovations and additions to Building #40, on the main campus of Walter Reed Army Medical Center. As the project develops, details of the contemporary interventions, including the roof structure in the courtyards and the entrance canopies on the west facade, should be submitted, along with a landscape plan, before the final review. Though not stated during the meeting, a suggestion was made to take the opportunity, as the landscape design is developed, to establish a new pedestrian walkway on the south side of the building to create the beginnings of an east-west connection across the WRAMC campus. This new walkway would allow a physical and visual link from the circle on Main Drive at the south entrance of Building #1 to the site of the proposed new Building #50. This connection will become more apparent and easily finished once the temporary building #T-2, just north of the new physical fitness facility, is removed.

The Commission looks forward to the future review of this and other projects for Walter Reed Army Medical Center. As always, the staff is available to assist you and the design team if questions arise.

Sincerely,

/s/Frederick J. Lindstrom
