Recommendation
Recommend AGAINST issuance of public space permit for removal of remaining original Aquia Creek Sandstone front steps and replacement with Ohio sandstone steps which would have an adverse impact on the historic fabric of this 1797-98 contributing structure. Original steps must be retained and re-used. See previous Recommendation (OG 05-010). No objection to replacement of concrete landing with Ohio Sandstone, and replacement of metal fence along flower beds to match existing location. No brick paving or alterations to driveway off 35th Street are being proposed under this permit application. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to rear yard, including terrace, exercise pool, fence and relocation of fountain. Note is made that permit application is pending final zoning review. Any modifications to the approved design as a result of further review in the permit process must be submitted to the Commission for approval.
