Dear Mr. Cinkala:
In its meeting of 17 May, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed and approved the final design submission for the retail entrance pavilion and landscape modifications within the central space of the L'Enfant Plaza complex (case number SL 12-085 at 420 10th Street, SW).
The Commission members characterized the revised design as elegant and attractive, commenting that it successfully minimizes the exterior expression of structural details. They recommended careful development of signage and lighting so that these elements will not detract from the design. Noting the proposal to enclose the freestanding vent structures with green walls, the Commission members suggested adding flowering plants for color, making these enclosures positive features within the more neutral character of the plaza.
The Commission commended the design team on the project's great improvement. As always, the staff is available to assist you with future submissions.
