Old Georgetown Appendix: CFA Meeting — 17 February 2011

No objection to revised concept design for partial demolition of rear additions, in-fill of rear porch at basement level, addition of windows and French doors on rear facade, two dormers on front roof and three dormers at rear roof, extension of railing and new stairs as shown in supplemental drawings dated 13 January 2011 which do not include any rear addition or deck of roof of existing lower level structure. File new submission of working drawings, including dimensions, details and cut-sheets with permit application for review by the Commission.

The Commission regrets that the windows were replaced and the signs and menu box installed prior to review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement windows with 1/1 insulated wood windows replicating wood mullion between paired windows on second floor PROVIDED single-hung windows with half screens are used to eliminate the jamb liner and track for upper sash. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for existing projecting sign and menu box which are not appropriate and must be removed no later than 31 May 2011. Corrective work for windows must be completed no later than 31 May 2011. Recommend smaller menu box be attached to security grill on door at top of stairs. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed new sign on existing awning composed of 5 1/2 inches-high lettering reading 'Go Fresh' to match placement and dimensions of sign on awning at 1209 Potomac St. as shown in supplemental drawings dated 19 January 2011, provided existing awning is relocated to cover from the edge of the door to the edge of the window as previously approved (see case OG 08-247). No objection to wood storm door to match storm door at 1209 Potomac St. The Board notes that the rooftop ductwork installed prior to review has been removed. Chimney must be repaired to original condition. Satellite dish must be relocated to where it is not visible from the street. Wire on side wall must be removed. Corrective work to be completed no later than 30 April 2011. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Returned without Action. Although specific concept design for rear dormer was not approved, concept application was superseded by permit application OG 11-113.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to existing signs composed of 12-inch-high channel letters reading 'CVS/Pharmacy' to add back-lit illumination, opaque faces painted red and 24 hours box sign no taller than 12 inches high as shown in supplemental drawings dated 9 February 2011. Sign on O St. closest to residential neighborhood will not be illuminated. Note: replaced front doors do not conform to approved design (see case OG 07-070) and must be filed for review by the Commission. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Returned without Action. Permit application for proposed banner for CVS was withdrawn by written request of applicant.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed new building which conforms to approved concept design (see case OG 11-009) as shown in supplemental drawings dated 11 February 2011 which indicate gooseneck light fixtures were deleted. Proposed brick wall along property line behind the parking lot must be not taller than 3'-6" high. Signs are not part of this permit application and will be filed by future tenants for review by the Commission separately. Recommend a third street tree be planted in collaboration with DDOT. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit. Erect a materials sample panel facing south on site for review by the Old Georgetown Board prior to ordering materials.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations, including new cornices, new storefront, entrance bay, portal and vehicular gateway, as shown in supplemental drawings dated 11 February 2011 which indicate gooseneck light fixtures were deleted and there is no sign on vehicular gateway. Signs are not part of this permit application and will be filed by future tenants for review by the Commission separately. The installation of gas meters was deleted from this permit application. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit. Erect a materials sample panel facing south on site for review by the Old Georgetown Board prior to ordering materials.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed sign with lettering no taller than 9 inches high reading 'HomeMade Pizza Co.' and only two light fixtures as shown in supplemental drawings dated 2 March 2011 which indicate a low arch to the light fixture bracket and no exposed electric conduit. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed site work and parking lot in coordination with proposed new building and alterations to existing structure as shown in supplemental drawings dated 11 February 2011. See separate permit applications under cases OG 11-050 and OG 11-051. Recommend a third street tree planted in front of new building and a new tree be planted to replace ones removed by brick wall along property line. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to concept design for reconstruction of storefront to match existing. Recommend AGAINST proposed awning with lettering which will obstruct continuous cornice of storefront. See permit application for reconstruction of storefront submitted under case OG 11-105.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations, including new wood siding at rear addition and replacement 1/1 wood single-hung insulated wood windows as shown in supplemental drawings dated 14 January and 10 February 2011 which indicate new brick pavers laid on sand and gravel and removal of existing metal railing along sidewalk on 36th St. . Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed sign scheme including 5-inch high lettering reading 'Sterling and Burke' on window trim and for lettering no taller than 12 inches high reading 'Swaine Adeney Brigg' applied to glass as shown in supplemental drawings dated 18 January 2011. Applicant agreed to delete listing of phone number on door. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for replacement of skylight at orangery and addition to north wall of hyphen as indicated in plans dated 14 January 2011. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to rear yard for parking pad, brick garden wall, and shed as shown in supplemental drawings dated 24 January 2011 which indicate continuous drain around patio pavers and cedar siding on shed. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations, including replacement of metal roof and slate on turret to match existing, skylights, hatch and rooftop mechanical equipment located where it will not be visible from the street. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed new white fabric awning with red graphics and lettering reading 'Camper' limited to valance, alterations to base of storefront bays, and for replacement door as shown in supplemental drawings dated 11 February 2011. Vertical sign as part of door construction and Internally-illuminated hanging signs were not approved and were deleted from this permit application. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to concept design for removal of 1-story frame addition at front and new two-story brick addition at front with shed roof as shown in drawings dated 26 January 2011.
