The Commission regrets that the illuminated sign box and the painted sign at corner of building were installed prior to review or permit. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for existing illuminated sign box or for painted sign which are not appropriate to the historic district. Recommend further study of a projecting sign at the entrance to the alley, and a flat sign with external illumination above entrance doors at rear. File new submission of dimensioned and detailed drawings for both signs with a permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

The Commission regrets that installation of mechanical equipment and alterations to the rear wall of historic building was completed prior to review or permit. Recommend AGAINST concept design for roof deck over rear one-story addition as proposed. Although there is no objection to the general concept of a roof deck, the design must incorporate removal of the front balcony, screening for the mechanical equipment, and relocation of the railing. File new submission of concept application for revised design for review by the Commission when ready.

No objection to issuance of permit for hardiplank alterations to storefront and black fabric awnings with 4inch high lettering reading 'Georgetown Cupcake' as shown in supplemental drawings received and dated 20 August 2009. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

The Commission regrets that replacement picture window and second floor windows were completed prior to review or permit. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for existing plate glass picture window. Recommend window be replaced with a single glazed wood window with true-divided-lite muntins to match original condition. Submitted materials are insufficient for permit review. Existing location of light fixture and new electrical outlet were not approved and must be corrected prior to 31 December 2009. Recommend removal of shutters at first floor. New wood shutters at second floor windows must be operable with accurate hardware and sized to cover windows when closed. No objection to issuance of permit for existing storm door and hose bib installed prior to review. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for revised design for picture window and for second floor replacement windows for review by the Commission no later than the 12 November 2009 deadline for the meeting of 3 December 2009.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed 2-story rear addition with basement and alterations to garage as shown in supplemental drawings dated 14 October 2009 which indicate simplification of rear facade and attention to roof drainage. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to the general concept of a rear addition at the second floor level as shown in supplemental drawings dated 12 October 2009 which indicate bay window, which was not approved, is deleted. Recommend corbelling for detail of capital on brick columns and traditional railing details for wood deck. File new submission of construction drawings, including dimensions and details, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

No objection to concept design for proposed alterations to rear garage for a second floor as shown in supplemental drawings dated 17 September 2009 which indicate standing seam metal cladding over brick wall. File new submission of working drawings, including details, dimensions, cut-sheets, mechanical equipment and material samples with permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

No objection to concept design for new entrance surround Option A, dormers and rear window alterations as shown in supplemental drawings received and dated 18 September 2009. File new submission of working drawings, including dimensions and details, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

No objection to issuance of permit for panel screen for existing mechanical equipment on roof per supplemental drawings received 22 September 2009. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed awning over entry door and for projecting sign at second floor level reading 'Massage'. Options for a pin-mounted back-lit sign were NOT approved and were deleted from this submission.
