The Commission regrets that projecting sing and light fixtures were installed prior to review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit for two proposed replacement lights above existing pin-mounted sign provided exposed conduit and entrance spot lights are removed as shown in supplemental specification and information dated 18 June 2009. Existing projecting sign and bracket were not approved, were deleted from this permit application, and must be removed no later than 31 October 2009. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for proposed roof deck over sloping shed roof of one-story rear addition, which is not appropriate to this house or its context in the historic district. Note is made that applicant did not attend the meeting where this project was reviewed.

Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for proposed alterations to two original first floor windows for new show windows as shown in supplemental drawings dated 18 June 2009.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed installation of four 1/1 single hung insulated wood replacement windows on front facade, two 1/1 double hung insulated wood windows at rear and replacement of rear door with simulated-divided-lites, all to match configuration, detail and profile of existing windows and sized to fit masonry opening, as shown in supplemental drawings dated 15 July and 24 July 2009 which indicate 1 3/8 inch high subsill and half-screens. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement metal landing and either the preferred straight stairs option or spiral stairs option as shown in supplemental drawings dated 18 June 2009. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to general concept design for proposed rear addition and alterations to window on storefront. Recommend AGAINST lowering of entry door and first floor structure. Recommend door surround be removed and transom repaired to original condition, introducing a recess along alley wall to demarcate addition, and widening of shop window only. File new submission of construction drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

No objection to issuance of permit for new portico, window alterations at rear and new one-story rear addition as shown in supplemental drawings dated 9 July 2009. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to concept design for new window to match existing in west wall. File permit application with clear demarcation of extent of brick repair work, repair metal swag ornament above entrance, and sandstone sills with like kind or exact match. File new submission of detailed and dimensioned drawings, material samples and permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

The Commission regrets that electric and gas light fixtures were installed prior to review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed shutters and electric light fixtures as shown in supplemental drawings dated 9 July 2009 which indicate no shutters on tri-partite window and retention of original shutters dogs. Existing gas light fixtures were not approved and must be replaced with electric fixtures no later than 31 October 2009. Recommend windows on second floor be replaced with single-glazed windows sized to fit masonry opening to match detailing and profile of existing windows. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Returned without Action. Public Space Permit application was withdrawn by written request from applicant dated 17 June 2009.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed partial demolition of brick wall at second floor level and reconstruction to match original. Existing cornice that wraps around the corner must remain in place. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed widening of driveway to 9-ft wide, re-using salvaged brick and new brick to match existing, as shown in supplemental drawings dated 23 June and 9 July 2009 which indicate a new brick border, to match sidewalk brick, used only on sides of driveway. No objection to re-grading and landscaping of front yard. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

The Commission regrets that sign and light fixtures were installed prior to review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit for back-lit sign composed of 12-inch high pin-mounted black aluminum channel letters which, as proposed, conforms to previous recommendations under case OG 09-028. No other sign is proposed. Existing light fixtures must be removed and the brick repaired to original conditions no later than 31 October 2009. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed re-grading of rear yard for new parking pad with automated wood folding gates as shown in supplemental drawings dated 20 July 2009 which indicate retention of portion of brick wall along alley brick facing on exterior of knee wall below fence, and sand base under upper terrace. All wood features to be stained or painted. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to concept application for removal of stucco facade and repair of brick wall as required. Recommend working with staff regarding new stucco application once brick is revealed and structural integrity determined. Recommend repair of existing windows and shutters as required. Recommend any new windows in east wall to match historic windows. Submit permit application for review by the Commission staff when ready.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed 6-ft high replacement fence at rear to match existing vertical board fence. Fence must be stained or painted. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for two wall mounted metal signs ONLY as shown in supplemental drawings dated 10 July 2009. Projecting sign was not approved and is deleted from this permit application. The Commission supports a waiver for the sign mounted on the wall facing the alley. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit. Sign scheme to be reconsidered when restoration of front facade to original condition is pursued. Note is made that work at one-story rear wing is in progress prior to review and without permit, and that work on front building does not conform to approved design (see case OG 09-075).

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement 7-ft high wood vertical board fence and gate as shown in supplemental drawings dated 17 June 2009 which indicate flat top matching design and height of adjacent fence, and that supports will not be visible from public thoroughfare. Fence and gate must be stained or painted. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.
