Recommend AGAINST concept design as proposed. Concept case has been inactive for a period of time.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed balconies at three levels of street facade as shown in supplemental drawings dated 9 April 2009 PROVIDED all three balconies are installed at the same time. Detailing of handrail will match detail of existing handrails on facade. Previously proposed new window openings were deleted from this permit application. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

The Commission regrets that alterations to retaining wall and wood fence along rear alley were installed prior to review and without a permit. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for fence as proposed in drawings dated 17 November 2008 which are incomplete. Recommend replacement fence of horizontal weave cedar boards match height of adjacent brick wall and be set back in line of adjacent fence; and reconstruction of retaining wall faced in brick match line of adjacent retaining wall. File new submission of accurate construction drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for review by the Commission no later than the 14 May 2009 deadline for the meeting of 4 June 2009.

The Commission regrets that replacement picture window and second floor windows were completed prior to review or permit. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for existing plate glass picture window. Recommend window be replaced with a single glazed wood window with true-divided-lite muntins to match original condition. Existing location of light fixture and new electrical outlet were not approved and must be corrected prior to 31 May 2009. Recommend coordination of use of satellite dishes with neighbor to retain one in a location not visible from public thoroughfare. Recommend removal of shutters at first floor. New wood shutters at second floor windows must be operable with accurate hardware and sized to cover windows when closed. No objection to issuance of permit for existing storm door and hose bib installed prior to review. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for revised design for picture window and for second floor replacement windows (installed prior to review) for review by the Commission no later than the 14 May 2009 deadline for the meeting of 4 June 2009.

The Commission regrets that roof top mechanical equipment was installed prior to review or permit. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for proposed alterations to window and rooftop mechanical equipment. Recommend design for picture window match multi-lite window to be installed at 1209 Potomac. Recommend second floor windows be replaced with historically accurate single glazed true-divided-lite 6/6 wood windows. New wood storm door must match adjacent storm door. Recommend finding the most efficient and smallest equipment for roof exhaust vents to be located as far from the alley as possible. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for revised design for review by the Commission no later than the 14 May 2009 deadline for the meeting of 4 June 2009.

No objection to concept design for proposed stainless steel pin-mounted sign scheme for 7 3/4"-high 'Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP' and 6"-high '2900 K Street' above front entrance as shown in drawings received and dated 13 March 2009.

The Commission regrets that signs were installed prior to review or permit. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for existing signs which are too numerous for this location. No objection to the one sign reading 'Jan's' applied to top of shop window. Projecting sign, bracket, and three applied signs above sill of window were not approved and must be removed no later than 31 May 2009.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed steel security gates for two basement doors as shown in supplemental drawings dated 19 March 2009 PROVIDED stiles and top rail are no more than 1 1/2 inch wide and brass screen is used. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

The Commission regrets that signs were installed prior to review or permit. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for existing sign scheme for 'Bodega', which includes numerous signs, and combined with railing and light fixtures on facade, are not appropriate to this historic building. Signs, logos, projecting sign; railing above projecting storefront; and all light fixtures, including gooseneck fixtures, must be removed no later than 30 June 2009 and prior to the review of a revised sign scheme for the storefront. File new submission of detailed drawings, including dimensions, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

The Commission regrets that sign was installed prior to review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit for existing projecting sign for second floor business with lettering reading 'Fringe hair studio'. Sign on entry door should be limited to name of business ONLY. Temporary banner must be removed no later than 31 May 2009.

The Commission regrets that the signs were installed prior to review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit for existing signs with lettering no taller than 8 1/2 inches high reading 'Georgetown Business Improvement District' and 'Georgetown Business & Professional Association'.

No objection to concept design proposal for removal of exposed ductwork and new rear shed dormer and single window at attic-story south elevation as shown in supplemental drawings dated 2 April 2009 provided entire new roof is standing seam tin. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

No objection to issuance of permit for 6-ft tall replacement fence and gate as shown in supplemental information dated 30 March 2009 which indicates a vertical flat board cedar fence proposed for the sections visible from North Place, rather than stockade. Applicant agreed to locate supports for the fence and gate on the inside so that they are not visible. Fence and gate must be painted or stained. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed projecting sign with lettering reading 'Reiss London'. Recommend existing light fixtures be replaced with smaller fixtures. Existing banner is to be removed. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

The Commission regrets that new brick wall, piers and wood gate were completed prior to review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit for existing gate, brick wall and piers PROVIDED urns and top two brick courses of cap on piers are removed. Modifications must be completed no later than 30 June 2009. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

The Commission regrets that alterations to gate, relocation of brick pier and replacement gate were completed prior to review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit for existing gate and brick pier; or to replacement 8-ft tall vertical board fence PROVIDED section of fence from end to first post is lowered to a height of no more than 7-ft tall. Modifications must be completed no later than 30 June 2009. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement wood 2/2 sashes on front bay window as shown in supplemental drawings dated 20 March 2009. Existing frames, casing and wood panels will remain in place. Other windows on front facade will be repaired. No objection to issuance of permit for roof top mechanical equipment PROVIDED equipment is located where it will not be visible from public thoroughfare. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Recommend AGAINST concept design for partial enclosure of second floor of rear porch as shown in supplemental drawings dated 2 April 2009. Enclosure should be similar to other enclosures on row of houses facing the alley with windows that retain the open character of the rear porches. File new submission of concept drawings for review by the Commission when ready.

No objection to concept design for proposed new garage structure to replace existing garage structure, replacement of brick garden walls to east, and brick paving and stairs as shown in supplemental drawings dated 30 March 2009. File new submission of working drawings, including details, dimensions, detailed landscape plan, and arborist documentation of preservation of large mature trees on site and adjacent properties.

No objection to concept design for proposed dormer on north slope of roof. Recommend sides of dormer be covered in siding rather than metal. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

No objection to concept design proposal for infilling garage door opening and inserting pair of new windows to match existing provided new brick will match existing. Erect pickled brick sample panel on site for review by OGB prior to permit review. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations, including rear additions at first and third floors, railing, skylight, lighting scheme and rooftop mechanical equipment, as shown in supplemental drawings dated 8 April 2009 which indicate mechanical pit to locate rooftop equipment where it will not be visible from public thoroughfare. Light fixtures on areaway and on chimney were not approved and were deleted from this permit application. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.
