Recommend AGAINST concept of proposed rear addition at third floor level above two-story building which is inappropriate in this location and would adversely affect the historic structure.

No objection to general concept design for proposed two-story rear addition with basement that will require partial demolition of rear of existing structure as shown in supplemental drawings received and dated 16 February and 22 February 2006. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed sidewalk cafe on public space for Rugby composed of two-chair tables and a bench. The Commission's preference is for a marker in the pavement rather than the proposed aluminum stanchions and rope. See previous Recommendation (OG 06-044). Note is made that permit application is pending final zoning review. Any modifications to the approved design as a result of further review in the permit process must be submitted to the Commission for approval.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed relocation of existing awning with sign on valance reading 'Innovation luggage and travelware' as shown in supplemental drawings received and dated 15 March 2006 which indicate awning installed lower in relation to the existing storefront window and removal of egg-crate soffit and light fixtures, which were also installed prior to review and without a permit. Awning must be relocated and egg-crate screen and light fixtures must be removed no later than 30 June 2006. Commission regrets that awning was installed prior to review and without a permit. Note is made that permit application is pending final zoning review. Any modifications to the approved design as a result of further review in the permit process must be submitted to the Commission for approval.

No objection to general concept design of proposed alterations to combine two houses into one, including rear addition at third floor level and alterations to front. Recommend further study of retention of two existing doorways with fanlights, and of firewall behind a continuous cornice. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement wood gates on side yard, to match height of existing gates and be painted white, as shown in supplemental drawings received and dated 18 April 2006 and for proposed deck on grade at rear of property which will not be visible from public space as indicated in supplemental drawings received and dated 21 February and site visit of 31 March 2006.

Returned without Action. Submitted materials and a site visit of 15 February 2006 indicate that proposed replacement of doors on rear facade will not be visible from public thoroughfare. Refer to the Historic Preservation Review Board.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to storefront. Working drawings conform to approved concept. See previous Recommendation (OG 06-035). The Commission regrets previous alterations to the storefront were completed prior to review and without a permit. Note is made that permit application is pending final zoning review. Any modifications to the approved design as a result of further review in the permit process must be submitted to the Commission for approval.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to storefront, new transom windows, replacement woven-fabric awnings, outdoor cafe with tables, chairs and umbrellas (with no lettering), and sign scheme composed of letters reading 'Agraria' as shown in supplemental drawings received and dated 8 March 2006 which indicate the sign on entrance marquee is composed of 1'-4" high steel letters back-lit on backplate for 'halo' effect. Internally-illuminated sign was NOT approved and has been deleted from this permit application. Recommend waiver of 12-inch height limit for letters of marquee sign in this location.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed addition of three-story in-fill as shown in supplemental drawings received and dated 8 March 2006 which indicate existing windows and doors at first and second floors of the rear wing will remain and masonry openings will not be altered. Proposed new 1/1 windows on addition will not have low-E glass or screens. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed landscape plan, including re-grading of rear yard, paved terraces, brick garden walls, wood fences and gates. Working drawings conform to approved concept. See previous Recommendation (OG 05-041). Note is made that permit application is pending final zoning review. Any modifications to the approved design as a result of further review in the permit process must be submitted to the Commission for approval.

No objection to concept design for proposed alterations to rear, including one-story rear addition of conservatory, removal and reconstruction of side yard garden walls and gates, and alterations to rear yard and swimming pool. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

No objection to issuance of permit and Public Space permit for proposed alterations to front yard, some of which have already been installed, including retaining wall, metal fence, entrance walk, steps to basement entrance and replacement windows at basement level, as shown in red-lined drawings which indicate removal of rear section of stepped brick wall (existing), raised height of front brick retaining wall and installation of metal fence on top of front wall. The Commission regrets that work was initiated prior to review and without a permit. Note is made that permit application is pending final zoning review. Any modifications to the approved design as a result of further review in the permit process must be submitted to the Commission for approval.

POSTPONED for further review of revised design by the Old Georgetown Board after applicant presented options to the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to rear slope of roof for two shed dormers as shown in supplemental drawings received and dated 3 March 2006 which indicate Pella double–hung Architect Series windows with 3/4–inch muntin true–divided–lights. Working drawings conform to approved concept. See previous Recommendation (OG 06-060). Note is made that permit application is pending final zoning review. Any modifications to the approved design as a result of further review in the permit process must be submitted to the Commission for approval.

No objection to concept design for proposed single woven fabric awning with lettering limited to 9–inch valance reading "Proper Topper" to replace three existing awnings. File new submission of working drawings with details and dimensions with permit application for review by the Commission when ready. Note is made that projecting sign was installed without review or permit and must be removed no later than 30 June 2006.

No objection to general concept design for proposed alteration to concrete wall screening oxygen containers at service court off entrance 1 to Georgetown University Hospital. Recommend further study of poured concrete walls with replication of existing patterning of the facade to be painted if necessary. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

No objection to issuance of permit for removal of existing awning and signs and for installation of new sign of lettering no taller than 9–inches high reading "Valise" in the space between the sill of the second floor window and the head of the first floor window. The proposed awning has been deleted from this permit application. File new submission of working drawing with details and dimensions for awning and any additional sign with permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed 7–foot high cedar vertical board replacement fence and gates on rear yard PROVIDED finished side faces on public alley. Fence must be stained. Note is made that permit application is pending final zoning review. Any modifications to the approved design as a result of further review in the permit process must be submitted to the Commission for approval. Refer repointing of the rear brick walls to the Historic Preservation Review Board.
