Letter

Dear Ms. Penney:

The staff of the Commission of Fine Arts has reviewed the final design submission from the D.C. Department of Transportation for the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail bridges across the railroad tracks on each bank of the Anacostia River in the vicinity of Pennsylvania Avenue, SE. The staff has no objections to the final plans and we appreciate your responsiveness to the Commission’s concerns during its review on 18 September 2008, including the provision for additional landscaping, the refined design of the abutments, and the textured treatment of their concrete surface.

With the authority delegated by the Commission at its meeting of 19 February 2009, we approve the final submission for this project as documented in the drawings and materials received and dated 23 March 2009. As always, the staff is available to assist you with future submissions.

Sincerely,

/s/Thomas E. Luebke, AIA
