Dear Mr. Berry:

In its meeting of 20 November, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed and approved the concept design for a new seal and sea lion facility at the National Zoological Park, as shown in the drawings and materials received and dated 7 November 2008. The Commission members commented favorably on the design of the building and site, and noted the use of a reconfigured, accessible path to engage visitors with the animal habitat. The Commission recommended that the building design and materials be simplified where possible and that natural stone be used in the landscape and animal habitat wherever feasible.

The Commission looks forward to seeing the further development of the design in the final review. As always, the staff is available to assist you with the next submission.

Sincerely,

Thomas E. Luebke, AIA Secretary
