Dear Mr. Peterson:

In its meeting of 15 May, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed a Congressional Gold Medal for the Crow Tribe, part of the continuing series honoring Native American code talkers of World War I and World War II. The Commission recommended obverse #1 and reverse #1, consistent with the preferences of the Crow Tribe.

In their discussion, the Commission members commented on the strength of the abstracted design elements in obverse #1. However, they expressed disappointment with the reverse alternatives, commenting that the colorful graphic design of the tribe's seal does not translate well to the medallic form.

As always, the staff is available to assist you with future submissions.

Sincerely,

/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
