Dear Mr. Peterson:

In its meeting of 15 November, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed alternative designs for a Congressional Gold Medal in accordance with the Code Talkers Recognition Act of 2008; this medal, the eleventh in the series, will honor the Lakota Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.

For the obverse, the Commission members recommended alternative #2; they suggested adjusting the composition to move the soldier's foot from the circumferential ring of text, such as by reducing the scale of the figures, and they commented generally that the integrity of the text circle should be maintained as a design principle. For the reverse, the Commission recommended alternative #1, consistent with the tribe's preference.

The Commission members expressed appreciation for the opportunity to inspect other recent medals produced by the U.S. Mint. As always, the staff is available to assist you with future submissions.

Sincerely,

/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
