Letter

Dear Mr. Obernesser:

In its meeting of 16 November, the Commission of Fine Arts approved, based on its prior review of the submission materials, the concept design for a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Anacostia River, connecting the U.S. National Arboretum to the existing trail in Anacostia Park. The Commission members suggested that a more monochromatic color scheme be considered for the bridge, and they recommended that a maintenance plan be developed for the landscape surrounding the new bridge and trail connections to ensure the long-term success of the newly cleared meadows and other areas.

The Commission encourages the project team to continue to consult with the staff in preparing the submission of the final design.

Sincerely,

/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
