Dear Mr. Lott:
In its public meeting of 17 November conducted by videoconference, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed a concept submission for an addition to the existing streetcar maintenance and training facility at 2550 Benning Road, NE. Expressing appreciation for the presentation, the Commission members present recommended approval of the project. For the development of the design, they noted that the proposed solar shading fins should be located and oriented for the best shading performance on each facade, and they recommended consideration of alternatives to the proposed planted permeable pavers at the parking and track areas, observing that the summer heat and intensive use may present challenges for maintaining the grass.
As a quorum was not present for the review, this recommendation will be placed on the administrative agenda for confirmation at the Commission’s next meeting. Please coordinate the next submission with the staff which, as always, is available to assist you.
