Letter

Dear Mr. Russo:

The Commission reviewed the final design for the new three-building barracks complex on Sheridan Avenue in Fort Myer during their 17 March 2005 meeting. The members approved the submission with a recommendation to study further the possibility of increasing the depth of the setback of the center portion of the west facades of the two resident halls.

The members suggested that the depth of the setback be increased so that the pedimented end bays project more prominently. This will help modulate these facades, reduce their apparent size, and make them more contextual with the highly articulated facades of the exiting historic resident halls across the street.

Please forward the final plans to the Commission’s staff for our delegated final approval. If there are any additional changes to the design of these buildings they should be submitted to the Commission for review. The Commission looks forward to the review of other projects for the Military District of Washington and Fort Myer. The staff is always available to assist you.

Sincerely,

/s/Frederick J. Lindstrom
