Dear Mr. Jeppson:
In its meeting of 18 June, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed alternative designs for the ten-dollar gold coin and associated medal honoring Nancy Reagan as part of the First Spouse series to be issued in 2016.
Consistent with the preferences of Mrs. Reagan and the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee, the Commission recommended obverse alternative #1 and the overall theme of reverse alternative #9, commenting that the artwork itself for this design requires further development, perhaps abstracting the identity of Mrs. Reagan on the reverse to represent adults generally in their guidance of children.
The Commission looks forward to additional review as a reverse design is developed. As always, the staff is available to assist you with future submissions.
