Letter

Dear Mr. Moy:

In its meeting of 18 March, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed the proposed 2010 reverse design for the American Eagle Platinum Coin Program. The Commission recommended alternative #8 as the most compelling design, which features the depiction of a symbolic torch. The Commission members commented that this design without an allegorical human figure of Justice would be preferable in combination with the figure of Liberty on the obverse. They also expressed concern about the superimposition of text across the torch and requested that the position of the text be restudied, possibly to relocate the text to flank the central image.

As always, the staff is available to assist you with future submissions.

Sincerely,
