Dear Ms. Fore:

At its 18 November 2004 meeting the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed both obverse and reverse designs for the 2006 nickel. The preferences were as follows:

Obverse: The profile view, looking left. The members thought the rendition of the scarf and coat collar was too stiff and stylized, and would benefit from a slightly more naturalistic approach.

Reverse: Felix Schlag's original version of Monticello.
