Dear Mr. Marootian:
In its meeting of 19 April, the Commission of Fine Arts approved, based on its prior review of the submission materials, the revised concept design for a new Materials Testing Laboratory, to be located at 350 McMillan Drive, NW. The Commission delegated the review of the final design to the staff.
In their approval of the submission, the Commission members recommended replacing the site’s existing retaining walls of wooden railroad ties with a more durable material, such as stone or brick, that would be more appropriate in the context of the McMillan Park Reservoir Historic District. The Commission encourages the design team to continue to consult with the staff in preparing the final design submission.
