Dear Mr. Vogel:

In its meeting of 19 February, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed a concept proposal for the rehabilitation of the lower plaza of Meridian Hill Park, located at 16th and W Streets, NW.  The Commission approved the concept, commending the National Park Service for its sensitive treatment of the project within this National Historic Landmark property.

The Commission members expressed their strong support for the layout, the location, and the painstaking technical work of the proposal, evident in the respectful insertion of an accessible ramp within this historic park.  To complete the final design, they recommended close attention in the selection of a new pavement material subtly differentiated in color and finish from the historic aggregate concrete.  They also suggested careful selection of new lighting fixtures and plant materials appropriate to this Baroque Revival garden.

The Commission delegated review of the final design to the staff which, as always, is available to assist you.

Sincerely,

/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
