Letter

Dear Mr. Peterson:

In its meeting of 20 March, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed alternative reverse designs for the 2015 and 2016 issues of the Native American One Dollar Coin series. The Commission members present provided the following recommendations.

For the 2015 coin featuring the theme of Mohawk ironworkers, the Commission members recommended alternative #4; they supported the suggestion of the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) to include text identifying the theme, with minor adjustments to the design to accommodate this addition. For the 2016 coin featuring the theme of wartime code talkers, the Commission members recommended alternative #9 and supported the suggestion of the CCAC to replace the dates "1917" and "1945" with the notations "WWI" and "WWII."

As there was not a quorum for the review of the submission, these recommendations will be placed on the administrative agenda for confirmation at the Commission's meeting of 17 April. As always, the staff is available to assist you with future submissions.

Sincerely,

/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
