Letter

Dear Mr. Cox:

In its meeting of 20 May, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed and approved the revised concept design for a new facility to replace the Scott Building on the historic campus of the Armed Forces Retirement Home on North Capitol Street. The Commission also approved the revised design of the new cooling tower, supporting the preferred location consistent with the orientation of other historic utility structures on the campus along North Capitol Street.

The Commission members commented that the revised design for the proposed residential building is much improved over the previously presented concept and appreciated the design team's responsiveness to the Commission's suggestions at the March meeting. They also noted that the proposed loading dock and service drive would be visible from the principal common areas of the new building and recommended that the landscape design provide better screening in this area.

The Commission delegated the review of the final design for both the new building and cooling tower to the staff which, as always, is available to assist you.

Sincerely,

/s/Thomas E. Luebke, AIA
