Dear Mr. Peterson:

In its meeting of 21 March, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed alternative reverse designs for the National Baseball Hall of Fame commemorative coin program, noting the unusual sequence of reviewing the reverses in advance of a public competition for the obverse design.

The Commission recommended alternative #2, similar for all three denominations in the program, with the phrase E Pluribus Unum not associated with the denomination and with the phrase United States of America located in the baseball's "sweet spot" between the curved lines of stitching. They also recommended that the lettering be carefully composed in consideration of the perspective suggested by the convex surface.

The Commission looks forward to review of the obverse designs for this program. As always, the staff is available to assist you with the next submission.

Sincerely,
