Letter

Dear Mr. Jacobs:

During its meeting of 21 October 2004, the Commission received an information presentation on the conceptual plan for the redevelopment of L’Enfant Plaza, on the 10th Street Promenade, SW. The proposed plan will provide a dynamic new home for the National Children’s Museum and possibly a more active central plaza. The Commission strongly encourages additional ground-level retail be incorporated in the project and that the above-grade circulation to and from the Metro station be better developed so that the new retail activity on the plaza will be more visible. In addition, the members requested the designers to study the effect of moving the western end of the new central building back from the roadway to allow the museum’s entrance pavilion to be the most prominent feature on the promenade.

The Commission continues to be encouraged by this exciting plan, looks forward to reviewing the project as the design progresses, and requests the applicant to submit for concept review.

Sincerely,

/s/Frederick J. Lindstrom
