Dear Mr. Hallinan:

In its meeting of 22 January, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed and approved the Real Property Master Plan for Arlington National Cemetery and the U.S. Soldiers' and Airmen's Home National Cemetery with the following comments.

The Commission members expressed their support for the principles and goals of the plan that will guide the Army in its major initiatives to create and develop new interment areas; to improve the accommodations for families, staff, and veterans; and to enhance the visitor experience. Considering the limited land available to the cemeteries for future expansion and the ongoing need for gravesites, they recommended minimizing the allocation of land for purposes unrelated to cemetery use.

The Commission commended the concise presentation of the master plan and looks forward to the review of individual projects that result from these important initiatives. As always, the staff is available to assist you with future submissions.

Sincerely,
