Recommendation
The Commission regrets that many alterations have been completed at both 1211 and 1209 Potomac Street that did not conform to previous recommendations or were completed prior to review or permit, all of which are not compatible with the character of the historic buildings and unacceptable in the historic district. No objection to issuance of permit for the proposed alteration to the first floor window for a larger multi–light single glazed wood show window with true divided lite muntins as shown in supplemental drawings dated 28 May 2014 PROVIDED all previous violations are corrected as part of the scope of work under this permit, including replacing the picture window at 1211 Potomac with one to match proposed window, replacing second floor windows with single–glazed 6/6 all wood windows with true divided lite wood muntins, replacing nailed–on shutters with operable wood shutters that will cover the window when closed, and that sign on awning at 1211 Potomac is made to conform with approved design as shown in supplemental drawings. All corrective work to be completed no later than 31 December 2014. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re–submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.
