Dear Mr. Chen:

In its meeting of 18 November, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed and approved the concept design for a proposed new chancery and embassy staff residential building for the Government of the People's Republic of China at 2300-2310 Connecticut Avenue, NW (case number SL 11-021).

The Commission members commended the architect on the well-resolved design; they endorsed the concept of retaining the historic building and adding a new building of similar scale and character to the large apartment houses in the immediate vicinity. In its action, the Commission delegated the review and approval of the final design to the staff, which is available to assist you. Please forward the final submission at your earliest convenience in light of your accelerated schedule.

Sincerely,
