Recommendation
No objection to the concept for modifications and additions to an existing 12-story building, including the relocation of the main building entrance from Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, to the corner of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, and the removal of the former main entry canopy; modifications to the 12th floor exterior wall enclosure and roof terrace; the addition of a new 3,200-square-foot occupiable penthouse level above the 12th floor; the installation of replacement storefronts at the ground and 12th floors, replacement windows from floors 2 through 11, and curtain wall assemblies along the east and south building facades; and the installation of replacement bronze metal cladding at the ground floor colonnade columns, new exterior lighting, and replacement paving, pending further consultation with CFA staff on the penthouse design, and pending the receipt of supplemental materials. Signs are not included in this review; forward a new and complete submission for signs that conform with the Shipstead-Luce Act area sign regulations when ready. Refer to the DC Public Space Committee. Note: This is a concept approval only. When ready, submit the permit drawings and a permit application to DOB for review by the Commission.
