The Commission regrets that some of the windows were replaced with vinyl windows prior to review or permit.  No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement of vinyl windows (which are not appropriate in the historic district) with single-glazed wood windows as shown in supplemental information dated 20 August and 22 September 2014 which indicate 5/8 inch true divided lite wood muntins, half-screens.  The scope of work under this permit application includes the replacement of all vinyl windows on all facades of the building with the approved single-glazed wood window.  Install a replacement window sample on site at the first floor level for review by the Old Georgetown Board prior to ordering all the other windows.  Note:  Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to storefront at the Lower Plaza at Washington Harbour, including vestibule, wood folding door system, decorative wood posts with rope lashing, outdoor seating terrace, and orange fabric awnings with lettering reading "The Orange Anchor" on valances as shown in supplemental drawings dated 18 September and 30 September 2014. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re−submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance 2'x8' fabric banner with 9" tall letters reading "BONOBOS", brackets with flat finials, and 4" tall vinyl letters per supplemental drawings dated 2 October 2014.

The Commission regrets that the historic front door was removed, the masonry opening was narrowed and shortened, and new brick work toothed in to accommodate a double-hung window, and that a single large areaway was established, all work in direct contradiction to previous recommendations, see OG 12-044 and OG 12-079.  Recent alterations for new opening in wall and for areaway were not approved.  No objection to issuance of permit to widen and lengthen masonry opening to match original condition and for previously approved installation of a triple-hung single-glazed wood window with applied 7/8” wide wood muntins and for alterations to areaway to establish two window wells at front of house per supplemental drawings received 16 September 2014.  Note:  Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for new wood door, garage lights, and metal stair with open risers, sandstone treads, and salvaged railing and newel posts per supplemental drawings dated 19 September 2014. No objection to concept design for alterations to individual designated landmark as shown in supplemental drawings dated 16 September 2014 provided existing transom is retained and repaired, shutters on rear facade are eliminated, altered masonry opening at lower level is kept to within existing window and door openings, rooftop equipment is kept at rear yard, solar panels and equipment are not visible from public thoroughfare, stoop is replaced with a solid sandstone step, metal framing of gate is removed, and replacement of siding is kept to the minimum. File new submission at DCRA of detailed and dimensioned drawings with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to concept design for proposed one−story rear addition with roof terrace and new garage structure as shown in supplemental drawings dated 10 October 2014 which indicate vertical proportions of lites on addition and alignment of garage with alley. Recommend development of the detailing of cupola on garage. File new submission at DCRA of construction drawings, including details and dimensions, for review by the Commission.

The Commission regrets that alterations and site paving was done without review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit to add second story flat roof side addition provided setback is 8" from existing south wall, windows include muntins or rails no less than 1 ¾" and existing pavement is removed for landscape per supplemental drawings dated 2 October 2014. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re−submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for wood fence no taller than 5'-6" along alley provided public space berm is not cut and all of its existing vegetation is maintained, metal pergola with terrace near northeast corner, asphalt parking pad with wood gates between auxiliary structures provided recently installed sconce is removed from historic carriage house per supplemental drawings received 4 December 2014.  Note:  Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to concept design for proposed alterations and signs as shown in supplemental drawings dated 9 October 2014 which indicate a metal sign band wrapping around the corner the minimum distance required for a cut−out sign reading "Chaia Farm to Taco", and planters on roof instead of metal railing. Vertical sign panel at rear of building is not appropriate, was not approved and was deleted from this submission. Recommend development of the detailing of the planter boxes. File new submission at DCRA of detailed and dimensioned drawings with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to proposed concept design for new wood front doors and transom, rear additions, window alterations, standing seam metal roofs with skylights, planters, wood fence, and brick wall with roll−up door per supplemental drawings dated 23 September 2014. File new submission at DCRA with detailed drawings, dimensions and specifications with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed addition and alterations to garage at rear private alley. Note that The L'Enfant Trust holds an easement on this property. No objection to issuance of permit for 6'−tall brick veneer/gray stucco walls with wood gate and 6'−tall wood fence per supplemental drawings dated 2 October 2014. Returned without Action. Submitted materials and a site visit of 19 September 2014 indicate that proposed installation of antennas on north, west and south elevations of penthouse at Reiss Center will not be visible from public thoroughfare.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations, which include replacement storefront at reconfigured ATM vestibule, relocation of night drop, removal of light fixture and louvers, and replacement wood canopies with copper roofs over rear doors. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re−submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

The Commission regrets that the railing on front stairs was replaced prior to review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit for existing metal railing with added bottom rail. Submitted material is not sufficient for review. File new submission at DCRA of complete and accurate drawings, including dimensions and details for a double−glazed all−wood replacement window with 1 ¾ inch wide true divided light wood muntins as previously approved, with permit application for review by the Commission. Returned without Action. Permit application for improvements to Cady's Alley and for proposed work on individual buildings, including lights fixtures for banners and stairs, illuminated planting strips, non−illuminated plantings, and illuminated strips at the base of the wall, was superseded by individual permit applications for each property. See cases OG 14−356 through OG 14−367.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed sign composed of non−illuminated aluminum channel letters no taller than 5 ½ inches reading "American Apparel" mounted to fascia of storefront cornice. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re−submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit to repair tin at front balcony with exact in−kind match, remove front shutters, enlarged areaway at rear basement window, in−kind replacement of membrane roof and deck at garage, and new wood garage door with increased height per supplemental drawings dated 3 October 2014. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re−submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed revision to approved design for a new railing to be located on the three first floor openings as shown in supplemental drawings dated 30 September 2014 which indicate that the new railing will be an open metal railing, fabricated from ¾ inch and ½ inch square steel bars, welded together and pinned to the masonry jambs. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re−submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

The Commission regrets that the roof deck and access stairs were erected prior to review or permit. Recommend against issuance of permit for existing roof deck and stairs which are not compatible with the character of the historic district and not appropriate to this historic building. Remove roof deck and stairs no later than 31 January 2015.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to rear as shown in supplemental drawings dated 6 October 2014 which indicate new door/window unit in existing opening with 1 ¼ inch true divided lite wood muntins.
