The Commission regrets that original iron stairs were removed and replaced with metal stoop prior to review or permit. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for existing metal stoop or for alternate option for brick stairs, both of which are inappropriate to this historic building. Recommend original stairs be replicated with either salvaged historic stairs, new iron work or a combination of both. Corrective work must be completed no later than 31 December 2010.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed removal of stucco, replacement of wood German lap siding to match adjacent house, and replacement 6/6 windows on side and rear facades as shown in supplemental drawings dated 14 June 2010, which indicate repair of existing 6/6 single glazed wood windows on front facade and repair of existing tin roof on both slopes of gable on main block of historic building. Proposed replacement of windows on front facade and of standing seam metal roof were not approved and were deleted from this permit application. Recommend repair of existing 6/6 single glazed wood windows on front facade and repair of existing tin roof on both slopes of gable on main block of historic building. The Commission regrets that sing box and sign on alley wall were installed prior to review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed sign box with back-lit letters no taller than 6-inches high reading '2 Bebe' above entrance doors as shown in supplemental drawings dated 3 June 2010. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for sign composed of pin-mounted letters mounted on side wall facing alley. Existing sign and light fixture on side wall were installed prior to review or permit, was NOT approved and must be removed no later than 31 August 2010. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to concept design for proposed alterations to rear facade for new window and door openings at the basement and first floor levels. File new submission of working drawings, including dimensions, window cut-sheets and details for alterations, rear fence and basement windows and grilles, with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for existing sign composed of pin mounted letters reading 'Puro Cafe' above entry door. Recommend first floor awnings be sized to fit within masonry opening and that brick around light fixture above menu box be repaired. Awnings on second floor windows were NOT approved and must be removed no later than 31 August 2010. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit. Note that window on south dormer was replaced prior to review or permit, is inappropriate to the character of the historic building and must be returned to the original condition. File new permit application for replacement dormer window no later than 12 August 2010 deadline for review at the 2 September 2010 OGB meeting.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed 3-ft high wrought iron fence and gate at front walkway and for 6-ft high gate on side yard as shown in option A of supplemental drawings received and dated 19 May 2010 which indicate a wire mesh panel in the lower section of gate. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

The Commission regrets that banners, lettering, logo and menu were installed prior to review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit for existing banners with lettering for 'Farmers and Fishers' and for painted logo near entrance door. Menu listing on wall was NOT approved and must be removed no later than 31 August 2010. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed woven fabric shed awning with 7-inch high lettering reading 'Georgetown Scoops' and 12-inch high logo on slope as shown in supplemental drawings dated 14 June 2010. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to concept design for proposed two-story rear addition as shown in option A of supplemental drawings dated 20 May 2010 which indicate rear wall aligns with adjacent structures and the remaining rear yard allows for the planting of a large canopy tree to serve as a buffer between the residential character buildings in the row and the office building behind them. Recommend retention of rear chimney. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations, including woven fabric awning, alterations to side door, and blade sign over side door as shown in supplemental drawings dated 15 June 2010. All existing exposed electric conduits and gooseneck light fixtures will be removed as part of the scope of this project no later than 31 August 2010. Previously proposed stainless steel awning was deleted from this permit application. Umbrellas for sidewalk cafe must have no lettering or signs. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Recommend AGAINST concept design for the removal of the front porch, an integral part of the original design of this historic building in a group of buildings built together in 1909. Proposed replacement stairs and portico will have an adverse impact on the historic character of this building and were NOT approved.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed sign scheme for 'Capital One Bank' as shown in supplemental drawings dated 3 June 2010 which indicate letters on entablature no taller than 12-inches high. Recommend AGAINST installation of proposed two-pole mounted sign at entrance/exit to parking lot which is inappropriate to the historic district and was NOT approved. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to concept design for one tripartite attic window to match existing as indicated in drawings received and dated 20 May 2010. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed 7-ft high replacement wood fence as shown in supplemental drawings received and dated 19 May 2010. The fence must be stained.
