File new submission of working drawings, including dimensions and details, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready. Note is made that zoning concerns have been raised on this project which must be resolved by the appropriate officials prior to permit review.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed repair, restoration and replication-in-kind of storefronts. The Commission regrets that work was initiated prior to review and without a permit. Note is made that permit application is pending final zoning review. Note is made that existing neon sign behind transom is not appropriate to the historic district and must be removed no later than 31 January 2006.

Returned without Action. Proposed work is repair and re-pointing of rear brick walls. Refer to the Historic Preservation Review Board for technical review of repointing process.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed 12-inch x 17-inch sign reading 'Proactive' which is to be installed with studs on mortar joints rather than attached to brick. Note is made that permit application is pending final zoning review. Any modifications to the approved design as a result of further review in the permit process must be submitted to the Commission for approval.

Returned without Action. Submitted materials and a site visit of 27 September 2005 indicate that proposed alterations to rear facade will not be visible from public thoroughfare. Refer to the Historic Preservation Review Board.

No objection to concept design for proposed alterations to rear, including one-story glass additions with roof decks. File new submission of working drawings, including dimensions and details, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed installation of new bronze sign panel and pin-mounted letters no taller than 8-inches high reading 'PNC Bank' on cornice of drum of corner dome as shown in supplemental drawings received and dated 21 October 2005 which indicate existing reveal will be left exposed.

Returned without Action. Case was withdrawn by written request of applicant received 5 October 2005.

File new submission of working drawings, including dimensions and details, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready. Note is made that the Foundation for the Preservation of Historic Georgetown holds an easement on this property.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations, including lighting scheme composed of light fixtures on party wall, and cove lighting on trellis structure, as shown in supplemental drawings received and dated 26 September 2005. No objection to issuance of permit for removal of awnings and sign on party wall, light fixtures and fabric covering on trellis, and multi-light lampposts. Working drawings conform to approved concept. See previous Recommendation (OG 05-212). Note is made that permit application is pending final zoning review. Any modifications to the approved design as a result of further review in the permit process must be submitted to the Commission for approval.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed railing and alterations to front stoop as shown in supplemental drawings received and dated 19 October 2005 which indicate stone cheek walls to match existing bay and replacement of double doors to match existing. Replacement of front door with single door and side panels was NOT approved and has been removed from this application. Recommend replacement of side windows on 2nd floor bay window as previously approvedunder case OG 02-344. Note is made that permit application is pending final zoning review. Any modifications to the approved design as a result of further review in the permit process must be submitted to the Commission for approval.

No objection to concept design for alterations to storefront, sidewalk cafe on public space and sign scheme including awning (which must meet code), sign with letters no larger than 12-inches high, and sign panel at cornice level as shown in supplemental drawings received and dated 26 September 2005. File new submission of working drawings, including dimensions and details, with permit and public space permit applications for review by the Commission when ready.

Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for proposed alterations to brick party wall to introduce a new window opening which would have an adverse impact on the historic wall. See previous Recommendations where similar window openings on this wall were NOT approved (OG 01-084 and OG 00-232). Note is made that permit application required final zoning review.

Recommend AGAINST concept design for proposed alterations to front dormers which are not appropriate for the scale and proportions of this building.

No objection to general concept for proposed alterations including third floor addition behind a mansard roof, alterations to masonry openings on facade and new basement entrance areaway as shown in supplemental drawings received and dated 26 September 2005. Recommend lowering of ridge line of roof and reduce scale of dormer windows. File new submission of revised drawings for review by the Commission when ready.

No objection to issuance of permit for two proposed signs composed of pin-mounted letters no taller than 8-inches high with logo to replace existing signs as shown in supplemental drawings received and dated 6 October 2005 which indicate detailing that matches previously approved design. See previous Recommendation (OG 05-154). Note is made that permit application is pending final zoning review. Any modifications to the approved design as a result of further review in the permit process must be submitted to the Commission for approval. Temporary banners, which were installed without review, were NOT approved and must be removed no later than 30 November 2005.

Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for proposed alterations to masonry openings to replace door with window and window with door as inappropriate to this building and the space allotted near the fire exit landing. Note is made that applicant failed to attend the meeting where this project was discussed.

No objection to concept design for alterations to penthouse terrace at Washington Harbour, including removal of brick arches and extension of existing open railing as shown in option 1 of supplemental drawings received and dated 23 September 2005. File new submission of working drawings, including dimensions and details, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

Returned without Action. Submitted materials and a site visit of 27 September 2005 indicate that proposed wood fence, located along property line behind gate, to replace brick garden wall which is leaning, and the pool at the rear yard will not be visible from public thoroughfare. Refer to the Historic Preservation Review Board. Front section of existing brick wall, visible from the street, will remain as indicated in supplemental drawings received and dated 30 September 2005.

Recommend AGAINST concept design of proposed installation of a theatre marquee or blade sign at the Performing Arts Center which, in either option, is out-of-scale and inappropriate to the character of this building and its setting. Recommend further study of a sign behind the glass or sign boxes to either side of the entrance to announce performances.

Recommend AGAINST concept design for alterations to facade as proposed in two-story bay window. There is no objection to a general concept for alterations to the facade, which is non-contributing to the historic district, to introduce a one-story bay window, and for the demolition associated with the project. File new submission of concept design for alterations for a one-story projecting bay window, in either traditional or contemporary detailing, for review by the Commission when ready.
