In its public meeting of 15 September conducted by videoconference, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed alternative designs for a Congressional
Gold Medal honoring bicycling competitor and activist Greg LeMond. The Commission provided the following recommendations and comments.
Consistent with the preferences of Mr. LeMond, the Commission recommended obverse alternative O-11 and reverse alternative R-05. They cited the obverse’s compelling depiction of the traditional conclusion of the Tour de France bicycling race at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, as well as the reverse’s design and inscription as the graphically strongest, emphasizing Mr. LeMond’s global engagement.
