Letter

Dear Mr. Lott:

In its public meeting of 18 November conducted by videoconference, the Commission of Fine Arts approved, based on its prior review of the submission materials, the revised concept design for the southern segment of the proposed streetscape improvements along Connecticut Avenue, NW, between Dupont Circle and California Street, which includes a new pedestrian plaza over the open vehicular underpass north of Dupont Circle. The Commission members expressed appreciation for the responsiveness to their comments from the previous review of the project, and they commended the D.C. Department of Transportation and the design team for their innovative rethinking of public spaces and placemaking, which will serve as a model for other infrastructure projects.

The Commission looks forward to reviewing the final design for this important project. Please coordinate the next submission with the staff which, as always, is available to assist you.

Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
