Letter

Dear Mr. Marootian:

In its public meeting of 19 November conducted by videoconference, the Commission of Fine Arts approved, based on its prior review of the submission materials, the proposed concept design for the three public spaces associated with the planned reconfiguration of the intersection of New York and Florida Avenues at First Street, NE. The Commission members expressed appreciation for the simplification of the overall design, particularly for the central parcel that is surrounded by streets, and for the inclusion of more trees to further help transform this heavily paved area into a green, welcoming landscape within the city. To emphasize the perception of a unified public space, they encouraged continued simplification of the design as it is developed further.

The Commission looks forward to the review of the final submission for this important civic project. Please coordinate with the staff which, as always, is available to assist you.

Sincerely,

/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
