Dear Mr. Hunter:

In its public meeting of 20 July conducted by videoconference, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed and approved the concept submission for a new building for the District of Columbia Archives, to be located on Van Ness Street, NW, near International Court, on the campus of the University of the District of Columbia.

The Commission members expressed appreciation for the responsiveness to their previous advice, which included the refinement of the glazed curtainwall systems to differentiate the public and private uses enclosed, the strengthening of the eastern facade that defines the western edge of Dennard Plaza, the simplification and unification of the landscape design at the entrance from Van Ness Street, and the addition of more trees and other plantings throughout the site. They commented that the revisions to the building and site design are thoughtful, and will result in a welcoming and inclusive addition to the campus and neighborhood.

The Commission looks forward to further review of this important project. Please continue to consult on the development of the design with the staff which, as always, is available to assist you.

Sincerely,

/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
