Dear Mr. Sirinakis:

During its meeting of 21 April 2005, the Commission reviewed the revised designs for the guard booth (Post 1M-13) at the northeast corner of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing Building on 14th Street, NW. The members approved the design for the booth, which is incorporated into the end of the barrier planter along the 14th Street sidewalk, with the exception of the line of bollards in the public sidewalk. The Commission thought these bollards are unnecessary as the planter provides sufficient protection from vehicles, and knowing that the Bureau is currently planning to relocate the public tour entrance to the 15th Street side of the building, eliminates the need to protect the public from vehicles on 14th Street.

The Commission appreciates the efforts the Bureau has taken to improve the appearance of the building’s grounds, especially on this highly visible corner, and looks forward to future submissions from the Bureau.

Sincerely,

/s/Thomas Luebke, AIA
