Recommendation

No objection to the proposed installation of new building identification signs at the following locations, as shown in materials received and dated 5 May 2015:

- Hubert H. Humphrey Building, 200 Independence Avenue, SW;

- Wilbur J. Cohen Federal Building, 330 Independence Avenue, SW;

- E. Barrett Prettyman U.S. Courthouse, 333 Constitution Avenue, NW;

- William B. Bryant Annex,  333 Constitution Avenue, NW;

- Dept. of Veterans Affairs Building, 810 Vermont Avenue, NW;

- Lyndon Baines Johnson Department of Education Building, 400 Maryland Avenue, SW;

- J. Edgar Hoover Building, 935 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW;

and at the following locations with the exception of three proposed signs:

- sign #2 of 3 at the Winder Building, 600 17th Street, NW;

- sign #2 of 3 at the Lafayette Building, 811 Vermont Avenue, NW;

- and sign #2 of 2 at the Robert C. Weaver Federal Building, 451 Seventh Street, SW.

These three signs are not recommended for approval because they are either redundant or too close to other building sign locations which will result in excessive signage and visual clutter.  Proposed signs conform to the designs in the GSA/National Capital Region sign system approved in November 2010.  Refer to DC Historic Preservation Office.
