Consent Calendar: CFA Meeting — 17 September 2009

No objection to the concept proposal to restore and repair the District of Columbia World War I Memorial, to rehabilitate the adjacent landscaping, and to reconstruct the walkways (as proposed in Scheme C), as shown in materials received and dated 1 September 2009. Material samples of the proposed paving should be submitted for approval with the final plans. Refer to the Historic Preservation Review Board.

No objection to the proposed installation of 10 kiosk-styled gourmet market carts in the West Carriage Porch of Union Station, including additional electric receptacles, as shown in materials received and dated 4 August 2009. It is understood that during off season (December to March), the carts will be removed and placed in storage. Refer to the D.C. Historic Preservation Review Board.

No objection to the proposed plans for a new Area 6 Electrical Substation, switchgear replacements, site improvements, and other utility upgrades, as shown in materials received and dated 30 July 2009.

No objection to the final plans for the installation of a sculpture by artist Craig Kraft on the grounds of the new Watha T. Daniel (Shaw) Neighborhood Library, as shown in materials received and dated 2 September 2009. As per the Commission's previous recommendation, it is understood that the artist, the building design team, and the DC Public Library, in consultation with neighborhood groups, have endorsed the proposed location for the sculpture at the corner of R Street and Rhode Island Avenue.

No objection to the proposed concept designs for the exterior rehabilitation, replacement doors and windows, and the installation of new accessibility ramps and equipment enclosures, as shown in materials received and dated 3 September 2009. Refer to the D.C. Historic Preservation Review Board.

No objection to the installation of new temporary classroom trailers and walkways as shown in materials received and dated 20 August 2009, provided the trailers are removed after the completion of the Eastern Senior High School renovation project, which schedule to be finished before the end of 2010. No objection to the installation of sculptures by artist James Simon, decorative benches, a new tree, and the rehabilitation of the existing public information kiosk as shown in materials received and dated 8 September 2009. Final plans conform to the recommendations of the Commission from the previous review in July 2009. Refer to the D.C. Historic Preservation Review Board.

No objection to the proposed installation of a secure enclosure for screening personnel and visitors at Post #1, which includes new fencing, at turnstile and modifications to the guard booth as shown in materials received and dated 10 September 2009.
